Lists that Listen

January12

At the start of a new year we all seem to make a list.  The list is called a resolution list by some a to do list by others.  The point is there is a list.  Lists allow us to  function in our very busy society.  We are constantly on the go looking for a way to manage all of our responsibilities.  I happen to love lists.  I get a sense of satisfaction when I am able to cross an item off a list, and yes I have many.  I am sure I am not the only one.  So, for this new year I have redefined what my lists contain and how I will use them.  I wish to share it with you.

For this year I am going to make my normal weekly or daily “To Do” list, as I truly find these lists to work for me not against me.  However, I always have a longer list the “I would like to do” this typically consists of cleaning the basement, putting things on Ebay, washing the windows, giving away the clothes we no longer wear.  The list that we all want to get to but never seem to do it all, or sometimes any of it.  So this year I want my lists to work for me not against me.  I am still writing the longer list, the “I would like to do or the someday to do” list, but in it I am making sure to put fun things in.  I will put, Hiking once a month with my boys, Taking a long bath, Reading for pleasure and not just for work or school, Host drumming circles, go on more dates with my husband.  I am sure you are starting to see where I am going here.  The energy in a list has to work with us.  In this way we will actually get to cross items off.  Once one item is crossed off we can get to another and then another.  This is how we make that energy work with us and not against us.  I am now excited when I look at my “someday to do list”  I am thrilled by the idea of more space in my basement or by a romantic evening with my husband.  I deserve both and I can now create both with more ease.

So, how are you going to redefine your lists?  The options are endless, just remember that while you create your list put positive energy into it so that when you look at it the list creates a feeling of excitement, not dread.  There is no more room for dread.
