Have you ever thought to yourself, here I am. How did I get here? Ever driven home from work or shopping and end up in your driveway but you don’t remember actually getting from point A to point B? In one way this is a great meditative state, one in which we get work done, however, it is not a conscious state. And that is what we are looking for. The basis of Buddhist study is that of living in the now. It is important for any spiritual practice to recognize this pedagogy. With the energy shifting and all of us moving with it it is important we are in syncronicity with it.
Recently I was with my family at the zoo. It was a fantastic 40 degree day here in Rhode Island and we all had a bit of cabin fever. (Let me insert here in case you do not know, my husband and I have a 3 and a 2 year old and I am due for our third in 2 months.) We were on a family adventure. We did not bring a stroller and we were ok with that. We leisurely strolled though the zoo looking at all the animals in the snow. There were so many new discoveries. It was then I realized as a family unit, we were all AT the zoo. My husband and I were enjoying the zoo as much, if not more, as the boys were. There was no, ‘Oh, I have to do that later,” or “Man, I forgot to do…” There was only the warm sun, the animals and one another. We were laughing and spying and discovering together. We remembered to take a few photos, I am glad we did, because we were truly AT the zoo. The boys are always where we are, playing, living in joy, they are my reminders. It was at the zoo that I saw all of my attempts at living in the now realized. When we got home I felt invigorated, full of love and full of the day. I had other plans that day, I never got to them and I never felt bad about it either. The tired I felt was that of a woman who earned her rest.
It was later, in retrospect that I saw I have been living in the now, consciously living for a while now, it has become more natural. This is not to say I have become a master full-time. I am a master of the moments. So I invite you too to become a master of the moments. In doing so you will find peace, you will find joy and more over you will find you. In this process remember you are reconditioning years of planning and social pressure, be gentle you may faultier, if so enjoy it, that is how you practice. You are already whole and complete, this will just allow you to see from a new perspective.

We are continuously asking ourselves “Who am I, what am I doing, where am I going, why am I doing this and certainly how am I going to do this?”.

These are all questions any good journalist will tell you are necessary to see the whole picture. That is where the problem lies. We think we always need the whole picture. We think, even though we know better, that our lives look like something we see on a movie screen. We think there is a linear theme, and that is never the case. Yes, there is a beginning a middle and an end but the middle is not linear, it is a puzzle and the piece that you start with may well be the piece that you find again that fits in a different spot. This is a gift once our perception has changed. We get to choose who we are, our soul may be the same from one life to another but our karmic patterns and lessons change and we have the power to choose that. What we do is also decided by us. What is your passion? Once we find that “what” the makes us tick we can not go back. We have to live it or we pay the price of living a very unsatisfied life. Once the who and the what are uncovered we find the where, why and how to be answered. The universe has a way of allowing us luxuries of opening doors and behind those doors we experience the where, why and how. So, the key here is to turn inward and unlock the door to who you are and what you really want. Once this is done you will find the rest of the story will unfold before your eyes. The one thing the universe always delivers is an experience better than that of fiction. You are able to write your own masterpiece. And isn’t that what we all want to do?

At the start of a new year we all seem to make a list. The list is called a resolution list by some a to do list by others. The point is there is a list. Lists allow us to function in our very busy society. We are constantly on the go looking for a way to manage all of our responsibilities. I happen to love lists. I get a sense of satisfaction when I am able to cross an item off a list, and yes I have many. I am sure I am not the only one. So, for this new year I have redefined what my lists contain and how I will use them. I wish to share it with you.

For this year I am going to make my normal weekly or daily “To Do” list, as I truly find these lists to work for me not against me. However, I always have a longer list the “I would like to do” this typically consists of cleaning the basement, putting things on Ebay, washing the windows, giving away the clothes we no longer wear. The list that we all want to get to but never seem to do it all, or sometimes any of it. So this year I want my lists to work for me not against me. I am still writing the longer list, the “I would like to do or the someday to do” list, but in it I am making sure to put fun things in. I will put, Hiking once a month with my boys, Taking a long bath, Reading for pleasure and not just for work or school, Host drumming circles, go on more dates with my husband. I am sure you are starting to see where I am going here. The energy in a list has to work with us. In this way we will actually get to cross items off. Once one item is crossed off we can get to another and then another. This is how we make that energy work with us and not against us. I am now excited when I look at my “someday to do list” I am thrilled by the idea of more space in my basement or by a romantic evening with my husband. I deserve both and I can now create both with more ease.

So, how are you going to redefine your lists? The options are endless, just remember that while you create your list put positive energy into it so that when you look at it the list creates a feeling of excitement, not dread. There is no more room for dread.

I have yet to meet a person who does not like to create. We do not all do this in the same way. Some of us paint, some write, some cook or bake, some read and imagine, some make blueprints, some create with legos or lincoln logs. The point is this, we all create. We create our realities by existing and making choices; to get out of bed in the morning, or not to, to eat, or not to, to go to a job the fulfills us or to just go to get a pay check. These are all actions that allow us to create our lives. It is time for us to take our power back and create consciously. To do this we have to get out of our normal “boxes”. I am sure there are days you look at your life and say how the heck do I have time to do that? Well, although we may be tired you will find that when you give yourself time you end up having more energy because your cup gets filed.

So I send this challenge to you, spend 30 minutes a day creating. You can create anything, I give you permission (I have found sometime I need permission). Here are a few ideas that can assist you on your creative path:

Vision Board - these serve us in so many ways. What is it that you dream about? Here is your chance to see it on paper. The next step is in your reality!

Start Journaling! I know, I know, people look at me like..seriously, you want me to write. Yes! I want you to write. Until we start writing we are not able to see patterns that are no longer serving us. So write baby write.

Listen to music and dance! There is nothing better than allowing your body to feel a higher vibration. When we listen to music we allow many of our senses to come alive again.

Create a new meal that you have never tried. We all need to be nourished, be creative with your nourishment and then you get the benefits almost immediately.

Color! If all else fails get a coloring book, a mandala off the internet or just a scrap piece of paper and color. It is easy, non intimidating and always a good time.

I have been thinking about the holidays as I am sure most of us have. This year in particular I have felt the magic that comes with the season. It is such a pleasure to be with small children who truly understand that magic. There are so many traditions and beliefs and all of them hold sacred space in each of our lives. It doesn’t matter what holiday you celebrate there is a sense of the sacred in each one of them.

For me, this year, the sacred comes in the packages of two small boys who for the first time really understand what Christmas is about. They understand that this whole month is sparkling with love, compassion, fun, excitement, joy and most of all magic. I have been able to watch the movies of my childhood with joy and new perspective. I have also been able to watch new movies and remember what I forgot….how to believe. I have been able to feel Santa watching our home to make sure that we are all being such good boys and girls.

This holiday season is such a blessing and not one about gifts and hubbub, one about the real spirit of the season. When I was a little girl I was in 6th grade and kids made fun of me because I believed in Santa. I remember one particular moment on the playground when a boy in my class came up to me and told me that Santa wasn’t real and I was a stupid baby to think he was. I told him with all the truth in my heart that I thought it was sad that he did not believe. I said, and yes I do remember this, “My mother said that Santa is the spirit of Christmas. If you don’t believe in that than I think that is sad.” He walked away dumbfounded and I felt very vindicated. The truth is Santa does exist and to this day I know this spirit we speak of. He is an old friend who allows me to remember what i forget through out the rest of the year.

This year, I know I was a good girl, I know this because I have my gifts already. Their names are Mitchell and Wyatt and I do not need a gift receipt.

I have found learning my flow to be quite a challange. I have a wonderful quality about me that has served me well called stubborness. Many times in my life this has held me with strength to my ground and allowed be to overcome obsticles in ways I never knew I could. Yet, I have learned that stubborness is not my friend but a tool in my tool box. This is a tool that when put to good use serves us well, very similarly to how an old friend serves us when we are needing understanding, love and acceptance. But unlike that old friend we should not call on stuborness to assist us in all of our adventures. I have learned that this old friend also allows you to remain stagnant as you can not possibly learn to flow with life around you if you are set in your ways.

The greatest part of this recognition is also having the power of knowledge and the power of faith to let it go and see what happens. I have recently thrown caution to the wind to see what life is like in the flow. I can tell you this; it is different for everyone and it is amazing. I have learned to watch as my efforts and hard work come to make sense in a way I never knew they could. I have seen my goals attained in the shortest time frame ever in my life. I have seen and felt how energy shifts and doors open and life blows in. I have seen how when I speak my TRUTH it comes back to me and allows me to serve as it is serving me.

This my friends has been one of my biggest lessons yet, and this time I really got it. I pray that you too find your flow and become one with it in a way you never have before so that your life opens and invites you into your dreams.

Namaste.

I was asked today how I was and what I had been up to the past week. I realized I had no idea what I had been doing or how all the days had past in a blur. When I looked back I realized I was doing something that comes quite naturally to me, I was nurturing. I was taking care of my boys, my husband, my siblings, my friends and their loved ones and somewhere in there I lost track of time. I was so enamored by this phenomenon in my life I had to sit down and write about it. I have not had the time I normally do to meditate or to keep my home in the manner I am accustomed to. But in the process of loving and nurturing I found true peace and happiness. I was doing what comes naturally to me. So I may not have had the time to life my “normal” day to day life but I had the time to spare so I shared. Although I am a bit tired I am not wiped out nor do I feel victimized. I feel like I am surrounded by love and all the nurturing I have been able to give is right here waiting for me when I need it. This is one of those time I see just how perfect my life already is. We all are on this quest to find and obtain perfection and I see I have what I need in abundance. How blessed am I? I am so blessed that I even found the time to share these thoughts with you! So, how blessed are you? Take a moment to feel the love around you and basque in it. Know that I am one of those that send you the love you are feeling.
